How it works · Plasma Cutting

From DXF to doorstep
in four steps.

Upload a drawing, pick a material, and we ship the parts. No minimums, no salespeople, no back-and-forth — just plasma cutting, priced in the browser.

The process

Four steps, one quote, no phone-tag.

Every order follows the same path. Most simple jobs move from upload to shipped in 2 business days.

01Upload

Upload your DXF file

Drop a .dxf into the quote page. We parse it in the browser — paths, closed shapes, overlaps and scale — and flag anything that won't cut cleanly before you pay.

  • Exported from Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Onshape, Illustrator, QCAD
  • Units in inches or mm — we detect and convert
  • No CAD? Try the Drawing Board or send a sketch

We review, nest & cut

A human looks at every file before it hits the table — checking tolerances, part orientation and material yield. Then the parts are nested on a sheet and cut on our CNC plasma table.

  • Hi-def plasma, ≈ 20,000 °C arc temperature
  • ±0.030" typical tolerance on mild steel up to 1/4"
  • Nested for minimum waste — you only pay for your parts

Anatomy of a good DXF

What a cut-ready file looks like.

These are the five things our checker looks for. Get these right and your file passes on the first upload.

1 2 12.00" 3 4 5 SCALE 1 : 2 · GRID 1"
1

Closed paths

Every cut should be a closed shape. Open polylines or gaps confuse the nesting software.

required
2

Real-world units

Inches or millimeters, drawn to the size you want the part. No arbitrary scaling.

required
3

Minimum hole size

Hole diameter should be at least equal to material thickness. Smaller holes pierce poorly.

recommended
4

No duplicates or overlaps

Overlapping lines get cut twice — wasted time, ugly edges. Clean the file first.

recommended
5

Generous inside corners

Plasma leaves a small radius at inside corners. Design with ~1.5× thickness radius for best results.

Materials & thickness

Every thickness we cut, drawn to scale.

Bar lengths are proportional to actual thickness, so you can eyeball the jump from 18 gauge to 3/4" before you order.

Plasma is great for — and bad at

What we can & can't cut.

Plasma is fast and economical but it has limits. Here's the honest version so you can decide if it's right for your project.

Great for

  • Signs, brackets, fire-pit panels, plaquesmost common
  • Flat parts in mild, aluminum or stainlessany thickness we stock
  • Short runs & one-offsno minimum qty
  • Holes ≥ material thicknessclean pierces
  • Parts up to 48" × 96"full sheet

Not a fit for

  • Very fine detail & tight tolerancestry laser or waterjet
  • Holes smaller than material thicknessuse drilled holes
  • Polished / oxidation-sensitive edgesplasma leaves HAZ
  • Thicker than 3/4" mild steeloutside our table limit
  • Non-metals (plastic, wood, glass)not cuttable by plasma
